What stays in your browser
- Your saved list is kept in your browser's local storage. Unless you sign in (see below), it is never sent to us. If you share it, the list travels in the link itself.
- One note in your browser's session storage remembers that you have seen the opening screen, so it does not play again during your visit.
- Moodboards you make are kept in your browser's local storage. Nothing about a board reaches us until you share it, or sign in (see below).
Shared moodboards
When you share a moodboard, we store what is on it (its title, the pieces and notes, and how they are laid out), a scrambled form of its edit key, and when it was made and last changed. No name, email or IP address is stored with it; if you are signed in, it is linked to your account (see below). The edit key itself stays in your browser.
Anyone with the board's link can view it; the link never lets anyone edit it. Shared boards are not listed anywhere on Oddbird, and search engines are asked not to index them.
To delete a shared board, choose Stop sharing on it, in the board or in your list of boards. That removes it from our server completely, with no copy kept, and its link stops working at once. If you have cleared your browser and lost the board's edit key, email hello@oddbird.club with its link and we will delete it. Apps that already fetched the link's preview, such as WhatsApp or Pinterest, may keep their own copy of the preview image, which we cannot delete.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional, and only with Google. Google handles the sign-in itself, under its own privacy policy. We ask Google for your email address and nothing more, and from Google we keep two things: that email address and the account number Google gives us for you. No name, photo, password or IP address. We use them to know it is you when you come back, and to keep your boards and saved list with your account.
Once you are signed in, your boards are stored with your account, so they appear on every device you sign in on. For each one we keep what is on it (its title, pieces, notes, layout and format), whether it is shared, a revision number, and when it last changed. These boards are private: they cannot be opened by link, and nobody else can see them. Only a board you choose to share becomes public, as a separate copy at its own link. A board you share while signed in belongs to your account, so any of your devices can update it or stop sharing it. A board you shared before signing in is linked to your account the first time you sign in on the device that holds its edit key. When you delete a board, a small marker saying so is kept for up to 90 days, so a device that was offline cannot bring it back; then the marker goes too.
Your saved list is stored with your account as well, so the pieces you save appear on every device you sign in on. For each saved piece we keep which piece it is and when you saved it, and nothing else.
Signing in sets one cookie, which holds a random key and lasts 90 days; the page's own scripts cannot read it. We store only a scrambled form of that key. While you are away at Google, a second cookie of up to ten minutes guards the sign-in against being hijacked; it is removed when you come back. Signing out ends the sign-in at once. Your boards and saved list stay with your account, and we ask whether to also remove them from that browser, which matters on a shared computer.
To delete your account, open Account and choose Delete your account. That removes, at once and for good: your email address, your Google account number and every sign-in; your saved list; every board stored with your account, including the deletion markers; and every shared board that belongs to your account, whose links stop working. A board you shared before you ever signed in, and never linked to your account, is not tied to you: it stays up until someone with its edit key chooses Stop sharing, or you email hello@oddbird.club with its link. If you also ask to remove your boards and saved pieces from this browser, a cookie lasting one minute tells the page to do it. Your Google account is not affected.
If you apply as a maker
When you apply through the For makers form, we keep what you send: your studio's name, your name, email address and city, your website, your Instagram and About page if you give them, and what you make. We also keep the exact wording you agreed to about showing your photographs and words, so it is on record, plus the application's status, our own review notes, and when it was sent and last changed. No IP address is stored, and an application is not linked to any account.
We use it only to review your application and reply to you. A plain-text copy is emailed to our own inbox through Resend, so we can answer you directly. We keep an application until you ask us to delete it: email hello@oddbird.club and we will delete it for good.
See it in your room
The photo you choose of your room never leaves your device. It is not uploaded, and we never see it: the pieces are placed on it inside your browser. So that a reload does not lose your work, that browser tab keeps the photo, at a reduced size, and where you placed each piece for 30 minutes after your last change. Closing the room view, or the tab, deletes them. If you save or share the picture, it goes only to your own device or to the app you choose to share it with. We count only that the room view was opened, or a picture saved or shared, never anything about the photo.
What we count
We count product views, maker page views and clicks through to makers' sites, so we can tell makers how many people we sent them. These counts carry no name, email, cookie or IP address. Your IP address is held briefly in memory to stop abuse and is never stored.
We also use Umami, a self-hosted analytics tool that sets no cookies, to see which pages are read. It records things like the page, the site that sent you, and your browser, device and country, without storing your IP address. It respects your browser's Do Not Track setting.
Links to makers
Links to makers' sites carry a tag (utm_source=oddbird) that tells the maker the visit came from Oddbird. It says nothing about you. Once you are on a maker's site, their own privacy policy applies.
The issue
If you sign up for the issue, we keep your email address and the dates you confirmed or unsubscribed, and use them only to send the issue. Nothing is sent until you confirm, and every issue has an unsubscribe link. Emails are delivered through Resend, which handles your address only to send them.
Unsubscribing stops the emails. To have your address deleted entirely, email hello@oddbird.club.
What we never do
We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not show ads.
